Bespoke gearbox design and manufacturing is the leitmotif of our company. Our processes are adapted to this business. We use chromium-nickel-molybdenum steels which are then treated to get a very high mechanical strength. Moreover, according to the customer needs, we can super-finish the gears and shafts which improves the efficiency and the fatigue strength.
Our design process is always the same. The starting point is the engine power curve and the bike features (weight, dimensions, tyres, etc.). Then we propose an optimised gear ratio set. This set is validated by performances calculations (acceleration, max speed, etc.). Once the customer is happy with the ratio set, the design can start. Parts are then manufactured in house and heat-treated. We deliver the gearbox with an assembly and maintenance manual.
NB : If required, we can assist the customer in his factory during the gearbox assembly.

Nous utilisons des aciers au Nickel, Chrome et Molybdène qui sont ensuite traités pour obtenir des résistances très élevées nécessaires dans le cas d’une utilisation en compétition. De plus, lorsque le client en fait la demande, nous pouvons pratiquer une tribo-finition qui permet d’augmenter le rendement et la résistance mécanique de la boîte de vitesses.
Nous fonctionnons systématiquement de la même manière. Nous partons d’abord de votre courbe de puissance moteur et des caractéristiques de votre moto (masse, dimensions, type de pneumatiques, etc.) puis nous vous proposons un étagement. Cet étagement est accompagné d’un calcul qui nous permet de connaître les performances (reprises, vitesses maxi, etc.). Une fois que l’étagement est validé avec l’accord du client, nous lançons la conception des pièces que nous validons par des calculs de résistance mécanique. Nous fabriquons les pièces, faisons traiter ces pièces puis testons le bon fonctionnement. Nous vous livrons ensuite la boîte de vitesses accompagnée d’un manuel de montage et d’entretien.
NB : Dans certains cas, nous proposons de monter la boîte de vitesses avec le client pour s’assurer que celle-ci va fonctionner dans des conditions optimales.
The BE gearboxes designed by PSA-Peugeot-Citroën are strong gearboxes that are still very much used in race cars (especially on 2L engines). These gearboxes are fitted with synchronizers based on the « New-Process » system. Synchronisation is achieved by means of a threaded conical aluminium ring sliding against a steel flange attached to the pinion. Although satisfactory in everyday use, the aluminium rings become weak points when used in severe application, like in motorsport (rally, track, hillclimbing). This is mainly due to the fact that the cast aluminium used for the original parts loses its mechanical properties when the temperature rises sharply. This results in a much shorter life span of the ring as well as difficulties in synchronization, which is detrimental to performance and reliability. For this reason, Involute Transmissions designs and manufactures synchronizer rings in high performance wrought aluminium, which allows a very high endurance of the rings in competition. This aluminium is usually used in severe aeronautical applications. Unlike the original rings, they are screwed onto the bars, which makes replacement easy and affordable. These rings are suitable for all BE gearboxes (BE1, BE3 and BE4).

N.B. We also offer synchronizer rings for standard use, particularly for classic cars (see “Classic Cars” section). These rings are not made of the same aluminium as the competition rings. The competition rings are easily identifiable by the “S” etched on the front.
The 205 GTI uses a BE type gearbox for the 1600 cm3 and 1900 cm3 versions. The first generation 205 GTI are fitted with BE1 gearboxes which often have a high mileage and for which the synchronizers are worn. As these synchronizers are no longer available, Involute Transmissions offers a remanufacturing of the aluminium rings. Indeed, the popping noise that can be heard during gear changing is very often due to worn rings. The aluminium used in our rings is a wrought aluminium that is much stronger than the cast aluminium used in the original rings, which means that their lifespan is much longer. The complete worn synchroniser is sent to us and we replace the rings. You can also send us your complete gearbox for repair, in which case we will dismantle and reassemble the synchroniser during the overhaul. Please note that these rings can be used for all types of BE gearboxes (BE1, BE3 and BE4).

La réparation se fait sur la base d’un échange standard. Le synchroniseur nous est envoyé complet et nous remplaçons les bagues. Vous pouvez également nous envoyer votre boîte de vitesses complète pour réfection auquel cas le démontage et le remontage du synchroniseur sera assuré par nos soins.
À noter que ces bagues peuvent être utilisées pour tous les types de boîte de vitesses BE (BE1, BE3 et BE4).
