The BE gearboxes from PSA-Peugeot-Citroën are strong gearboxes that are still very much used in race cars (especially on XU10 engines).
These gearboxes are fitted with synchronizers based on the New-Process system. Synchronisation is achieved by means of a threaded conical aluminium ring sliding against a steel flange attached to the pinion.
Although satisfactory in everyday use, the aluminium rings become weak points when used in severe application, as is the case in motorsport (rally, track, hillclimbing).
This is mainly due to the fact that the cast aluminium used for the original parts loses its mechanical properties when the temperature rises sharply. This results in a much shorter life span of the ring as well as difficulties in synchronization, which is detrimental to performance and reliability.
For this reason, Involute Transmissions designs and manufactures synchronizer rings in high performance wrought aluminium, which allows a very high endurance of the rings in competition. This aluminium is usually used in severe aeronautical applications.
Unlike the original rings, they are screwed onto the bars, which makes replacement easy and affordable.
These rings are suitable for all BE gearboxes (BE1, BE3 and BE4).

NB: We also offer synchronizer rings for standard use, particularly for classic cars (see “Classic Cars” section). These rings are not made of the same aluminium as the competition rings. The competition rings are easily identifiable by the “S” etched on the front.
The 205 GTI uses a BE type gearbox for the 1600 cm3 and 1900 cm3 versions. The first genera-tion 205 GTI are fitted with BE1 gearboxes which often have a high mileage and for which the synchronizers are worn.
As these synchronizers are no longer available, Involute Transmissions offers a remanufacturing of the aluminium rings. Indeed, the popping noise that can be heard during gear changing is very often due to worn rings.
The aluminium used in our rings is a wrought aluminium that is much stronger than the cast alu-minium used in the original rings, which means that their lifespan is much longer.
The complete worn synchroniser is sent to us and we replace the rings. You can also send us your complete gearbox for repair, in which case we will dismantle and reassemble the synchroniser during the overhaul.
Please note that these rings can be used for all types of BE gearboxes (BE1, BE3 and BE4).

La réparation se fait sur la base d’un échange standard. Le synchroniseur nous est envoyé complet et nous remplaçons les bagues. Vous pouvez également nous envoyer votre boîte de vitesses complète pour réfection auquel cas le démontage et le remontage du synchroniseur sera assuré par nos soins.
À noter que ces bagues peuvent être utilisées pour tous les types de boîte de vitesses BE (BE1, BE3 et BE4).
